A Short History of Granola

Posted by on

Granola is widely known and loved as a delicious, nutritious, fiber rich breakfast food, energy boosting snack and healthy dessert accessory.  Based on oats, nuts and honey, variations include dried fruits, seeds and other whole grains, all gently baked together until crisp.  But granola hasn't always been around. The Jackson Hole Historical Society & Museum

A short walk up North Cache from The Bunnery, you'll find the Jackson Hole Historical Society & Museum.  The Museum was founded in 1958, and the Historical Society in 1965.  The two were merged in 1989.  Originally a private museum to display the collection of W.C. "Slim" Lawrence, the present space was provided by Homer Richards, a friend of Lawrence and owner of the Pap Deloney store, built in 1906. The two began with objects for sale to generate revenue and 'curiosities' for exhibit.

A Brief History of Pumpkin Pie

Posted by on

Pumpkins are native to the New World and their earliest relatives can be traced back 9,000 years to Mexico.  Over time, various forms of the vegetable migrated to the northeast United States, adapting to a cooler climate.  Related to squashes, cucumbers and cantaloupes, pumpkins and their seeds were both a food and medicinal ingredient of Native Americans, who called them 'isquotm squash.'  Typically prepared by cutting into strips and drying or roasting on coals over an open fire, this autumn squash was an important staple of winter survival.

It's not often an event can compete visually with the spectacular natural beauty of Jackson Hole, but once a year, the Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival comes close.  The 2012 Festival, marking the event's 28th year, takes place from September 6th through 16th, a long way from the opening of Jackson's first art gallery in 1963.  The Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival is now one of the nation's most important festivals of its kind.

Old Bill's Fun Run 2012 was a huge success, with over 3,000 people turning out to run, walk or watch on behalf of Jackson charitable causes supported by the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole!  A glorious blue sky and spectacular weather set the scene for the day's events.  Boy Scout Troop #268 was hard at work keeping riots from breaking out over a dwindling supply of Bunnery granola yogurt parfaits, and spectators of all feathers enjoyed the fun.

Elkfest is Here!

On a first trip to Jackson Hole, the spectacular Antler Arch makes someone like me, a city girl, wonder how many elk it took to build.  As it turns out, just like in the movies, no elk were harmed in the making of this arch.
