Dessert hold a special place in American dining - and it's even more special when ordered in a restaurant.  Whether it's an architectural construction of ganache and spun sugar served with a fourish in a ritzy dining room or a slice of mile-high lemon meringue pie dished up at the corner diner, dessert has a way of elevating the status of any meal. Nor surprisingly, there’s no shortage of great dessert spots in our country. Here are a few that are especially noteworthy for anyone who really enjoys the sweeter things in life.

JACKSON HOLE
WYOMING

THE BUNNERY
This popular spot has indulged Jackson’s sweet cravings for 18 years. Tourists come in for an espresso and a sticky bun before heading off to Yellowstone National Park. The locals prefer to take a seat on the outdoor patio and enjoy a slice of Very Berry Pie, with raspberries, strawberries and blueberries. It’s the standout menu item, but don’t bother asking how to make the delicious thick crust. It’s a well-guarded secret.
